McDonald's isn't the only company claiming "billions served." The iTunes store has now sold over 25 billion songs. Over the past ten years, iTunes has forever changed the way we listen to and purchase music, and today's announcement seems to indicate Apple's digital distribution shows no signs of slowing down."We are grateful to our users whose passion for music over the past 10 years has made iTunes the number one music retailer in the world," said Apple's Eddy Cue, via press release. "Averaging over 15,000 songs downloaded per minute, the iTunes Store connects music fans with their favorite artists, including global sensations, like Adele and Coldplay, and new artists like The Lumineers, on a scale we never imagined possible."Obviously, Apple seems delighted by the milestone, and even tracked the 25th billion song downloaded to its iTunes user. Philip Lüpke, of Germany, purchased the record-setting download, dance track "Monkey Drums" by Chase Burch. Apple awarded Lüpke a â¬10,000 iTunes gift card. Not a bad return-on-investment for snagging a $.99 song.Wesley Schultz, lead vocalist of the aforementioned Lumineers, also commented not he significance of Apple's iTunes Store to recording artists."In a lot of ways, iTunes has leveled the playing field for musicians," said Schultz. "Whether youâre unsigned, indie, major, whatever -- itâs the place most people go to buy digital music." Follow this article's author, Matt Clark, on Twitter.
