Let's say you enjoyed the holidays a bit too much. Also, if we're really being honest, you probably enjoyed January* too much as well. There are a number of apps that track your health and fitness, such as the ever-excellent Nike+, but Moves excels at doing something different-- it tracks you passively. What's amazing about Moves is that it can monitor how many steps you've taken in a day, how much distance you've traveled, and even the way you've gotten from point A to point B whether by walking, running or bicycle. I had Moves track me from one of my jobs in Brooklyn to a night out in the Lower East Side. It even noticed on my daily walk how I switch the sides of the street I'm on to avoid walking through a bunch of busy auto-body shops. Creepy, and cool. That said, this app has a few flaws. You're going to have to keep your phone on you at all times. This generally wouldn't be a problem for most people, but if you dock your phone at work at all, you're going to miss out on all of those steps taken throughout the day. Additionally, since this app is using location services throughout the entire day, it's going to be a drain on your battery. Ultimately, the app works as intended and is a great way of tracking your progress throughout the day. *No, Have a Pizza Day is not some real magical holiday, it's just a lie I told myself once and I can neither confirm nor deny reports of it being totally worth it.
